Baltimore County, 7/26/2023 – Yesterday, Delegate Harry Bhandari joined the Baltimore County Senate/ House Delegation for a series of visits to critical agencies within the county. The day commenced with a visit to the Baltimore County Detention Center, followed by engaging discussions with the Baltimore County Police Department and BCPS Superintendent Dr. Myriam Yarbrough.
Early morning, joined by the County Administration team, the Delegation took an exclusive tour of the detention facility, gaining insights into the living conditions for juveniles. The visit reinforced the commitment of the stakeholders to providing resources and support to young individuals seeking a second chance. Director of Corrections Walt J. Pesterfield emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts, stating: “We value the support from the Delegation as we work together to ensure a fair and rehabilitative environment for our young residents.”
The Delegation also had the pleasure of meeting Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough and senior staff at the Baltimore County Police Department. The conversation was marked by warmth, productivity, and inspiration as they discussed various initiatives to keep the community safe and thriving. Chief McCullough praised the partnership with the House Delegation, stating: “Working together with Delegation has been instrumental in implementing effective initiatives to keep our community safe and thriving.”
Continuing their commitment to education, the Delegation concluded the day with an extraordinary meeting with BCPS Superintendent Dr. Myriam Yarbrough at the BCPS Greenwood Campus. Their fruitful discussion revolved around exploring ways to create an even brighter future for schools and students. “Ensuring high levels of academic achievement, creating a safe and supportive learning environment, strengthening our infrastructure, and nurturing the growth of our educators and leaders are the cornerstones of my vision for BCPS,” Dr. Yarbrough stated.
Delegate Bhandari expressed, “What an honor to serve our community. Today’s listening tour has given our delegation invaluable insights into the challenges and opportunities to positively impact Baltimore County and shape a bright future for all!” He also thanked the Baltimore Senate and House Delegation for setting up this crucial meeting.
