Eviction Relief

Earlier this week Governor Larry Hogan announced he was committing $30 million in new funding in eviction relief for Maryland residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. A few weeks back, Democratic members of the General Assembly submitted a letter to Gov. Hogan requesting rent relief, and I am happy to see he followed our request.

With the pandemic causing many to lose their jobs, this was a necessary step. The federal moratorium on evictions ends at the end of July, and the last thing we need is to see a flood of people evicted due to the hardship caused by the pandemic. Housing is health care, and that has never been more apparent than now.

Thank you to Governor Hogan for taking steps to protect those who are struggling to make ends meet, and thank you to the Democratic leadership and my colleagues in the General Assembly for pushing hard for this funding.
